- Access: scaffold, edge protection, permits for pavement or road licences.
- Strip and waste: removal, skip, disposal of any hazardous material (asbestos needs a specialist).
- Specification: membrane, battens, tile or slate make, colour and fixing method.
- Details: ridges, hips, valleys, verges, flashings, vents, chimneys, rooflights.
- Rainwater goods and roofline: gutters, downpipes, fascia, soffit.
- Contingencies: what happens if timber is rotten – priced rate per m or item.
- Terms: VAT, payment stages, validity, guarantee and cancellation rights for consumers.

- Your business details, the client and site address, a clear scope of work broken into lines (scaffold, strip, membrane, battens, covering, ridges, flashings, rainwater goods, waste), materials specification, price excluding and including VAT, what is excluded, start date and duration, payment terms, guarantee and how long the quote is valid.
- Should I show VAT on a roofing quote?
- If you are VAT registered, show the price before VAT, the VAT amount and the total. For work for other VAT-registered construction businesses the domestic reverse charge may apply – check GOV.UK or ask your accountant.
- How long should a roofing quote be valid?
- Many roofers use 30 days, because material prices change. State it clearly on the quote.
